“Give a book, illuminate a mind”…is the concept behind the scheme of Free Distribution of Books. In all homes, there are several books that are relegated to dusty lofts or dark corners once they are read. These books are too precious to be sold by weight along with old papers or to be torn up or burnt. The deep seated urge to inculcate the reading habit among all the people irrespective of class, caste and economic status, gave birth to this unique scheme of collecting books from people who no longer need them and distributing them to readers who might otherwise hesitate to buy new books.

This scheme was launched on April 23rd 2015 to coincide with the International World Book Day. The first year, we distributed 6000 books, in the second year, 36,000 and in the third year, 42,000. To facilitate this, Book Hundies were established, where patrons could donate books. The year it was launched, this was conducted only in Vijayawada and in the next year in Guntur and Vijayawada. Thanks to the immense popularity and success of the scheme. In 2016 it was conducted in several other places such as Vijayawada, Guntur, Narsarao Pet, Vijayanagaram, Parvathipuram, Srikakulam, etc, etc.

This is a win-win situation as both the donor as well as the beneficiary are happy. The donor experiences a sense of fulfillment with the knowledge that the books that were once lying idle at home are now enjoying a fresh lease of life and the receiver is happy to get books for free. We owe our success to the great support of the press and media and to the large number of people eagerly turned up to receive the books that they wished to read.
